Ableton Live 9 Release Date

I was hoping that perhaps this weekend there would be an announcement about the release date for Ableton Live 9, but the best I could find was this blog post. The only issue is there is conlficting information.

They mention two dates in February, but perhaps this is just the store’s hope to secure some pre-orders? Either way, it looks like I will find out for sure within the next month or two.

Really busy this week with a bunch

Hey there, I’ve been a bit late on some posts here.

I’ve been really busy this week with a bunch of stuff I haven’t really done in a while. I was writing a resume (cross fingers) and editing video (I gotta do that more!! So much fun)

Anyhow, I’ll get back to queuing up a few of my favourite music and technology tidbits from across the internets!

Studio Tips: No Presets in Effectrix or how to fix the problem with presets in Effectrix

Good Day fellow readers, today’s ableotn tip came after having a few problems running Effectrix. Basically the presets would not show up within the application, even though I have installed it properly (many times!).

The solution was found on the KVR forum by the Effectrix tech support staff:

on PC its enough just to uninstall and reinstall the program.

On mac the plist file must be deleted before reinstall, you
can find it here: USER/Library/Preferences/com.sugar-bytes.Effectrix.plist

Ahaaa, so apparently when I re installed my software on this system I did not delete the plist file first!

Bonus tip: in Finder on Mac OS X if you cannot see the library, hold ALT and click the “GO” menu in finder. Voila! Instantly your hidden user library folder is visible.

new maul album >album title goes here< announced

The mau5 may not be happy, but he is putting out some new(isn)tunes soon. The canadian electronic music producer will be putting out a new album September 25, 2012.

He just recently reconstructed his home studio (pics on his Facebook & blog) so he probably used the newly constructed space to polish up some stuff he’s been working on for a while.

The new 13 track album will feature an already released track, Failbait (featuring Cypress Hill), and Professional Griefers (featuring Gerard Way), out this week.

Exciting to hear the full quality .wav versions off beatport once this drops!

Where is the good tech analysis:Apple Obsolescence Debate

Do we need to stop being good analytical thinkers because we’re dealing with technology? I don’t think so and I’m always wary for misleading analysis.

I recently read a five point article online from Information Week supporting their earlier criticism on the Apple Obsolescence Debate (something one doesn’t experience if you’re upgrading constantly I guess)

The main part that irked me was the subtitle “More Analysis Please, Fanboys” which the article failed to provide. . .

You can look up the original article here below I have provided the titles and my analysis

1. MobileMe vs. iCloud.
This argument regards web services, this is like Google dictating the system requirements for gmail, assuming gmail had some new upgrade coming.

Also, I think its a fair move for Apple to force the transition, iCloud is now a free service, yet it requires billions of dollars of investment and infrastructure. This may not be the best solution for enterprise. Thats not what they’re trying to do though!

Apple can’t keep supporting MobileMe and my feeling is that on a programming level the calendar “object” is being changed to no longer include reminders since this will be a separate app in future releases.

I’m not sure I agree with using a free service for your vital info like contacts and contacts; if it doesn’t work you can’t complain to anybody. And by the way, what IT service was using MobileMe / iCloud?!?!

Overall my experience with it so far has been pretty great so if one day iCloud stops serving my needs I haven’t paid anything for it. I could always implement some other solution.

2. Dock rumour.
Difficult to address the significance of this point since it hasn’t occurred, but if (or when) they do remove the dock connector it will be the first time they changed it for ages.

I agree with the comments that the current dock port has been around a long time. I just hope that if/when Apple changes the dock, it delivers the promised value.

My feeling is that they are waiting until induction-charging technology is developed to the point where there is no need for a cable at all. The latest iOS introduced wifi-sync for devices which is the first step.

3. Conflict Of Interest.
I’m certain he doesn’t have a conflict of interest, but he has limited his analysis to less salient points. I feel he’s over blown the importance of iCloud transition especially considering he’s comparing a paid service ($99 a year) to a free service with paid advantages (more GB)

4. Lifecycle.
Absolutely, this is a valid criticism. They are a for-profit technology company that isn’t going bankrupt, expect to pay for that in the product and stock, and expect loud-mouthed fools the champion it because its the premium choice. But in fairness they deliver a solid product, they’re trying to innovate at a pace thats faster than usual.

5. Our “Inflammatory” Headline.
C’mon its a news post, he’s allowed to have inflammatory headlines, and besides its usually the editors choice.

That wraps up my thoughts and opinions.

Do you disagree in any way? Continue the discussion below

Quiet April, lousy Smarch

I’ve finished Uni but still have not carved out time in my schedule for this blog. Soon I’ll begin scheduling the required posts to consider this site “alive” but sadly this post is a bit of an explanation in case I don’t quite get back to cps in time for tea.

I hope to be back online posting this summer!

Can’t wait to be finished Uni

Omfg, procrastination time. Let me tell you I’ve been so busy writing papers for school and work lately I’ve had no curative or creative juices left to blog. proof:

But persevere I shall. I’m a few hundred words away from being done and free to start clearing the log jam of creative projects I want to get to. For example powering this DSI Mopho up again and making music!
