Sebastien Leger does it again with Plik Plok

I have been a fan of Sebastien Leger for a while now. I first wrote about his remix of Manson, The People last September.

Even before that I did a quick tech blog post showing him mixing some stuff in Ableton for his live show. In fact it sounds very similar to this song Plik Plok.

I really love the minimal feel of this. It still has very prominent sonic elements; this song fills your speakers out! What’s great about this song is its very DJ friendly. If you love electronic music this is the type of track you could play as a loop in your set and add SO much in terms of effects. Reverbs, Delays and a few glitch and volume modulation effects and you’ve got a banging live remix of this track . . . in the right hands of course!

There is a huge bass line that might get in the way. If you killed the bass all that would be left would be the high pitched pattern, instant DJ TOOL! Also, the did I mention that the percussion sounds really great?

What more can I say, Seb Leger tu l’avez fait trés bien!

Check out the song on YouTube below and support this artist on Beatport, iTunes etc! (and the audiophile in me also screams; BUY THE WAV not the MP3!! but thats a whole other problem)

Music Mondays: Groove Armada – Paper Romance

Great single off of Black Light, the new album this year.

The Groove Armada process is rote by this point. Andy Cato and Tom Findlay act as ringleaders, bringing in their newest coterie of vocalists, then putting them through their paces as they dance across genres and styles. When Cato said in January that MGMT served as a major inspiration for Black Light, it might have been tempting to think that perhaps he had misspoken. After all, Groove Armada has been around for more than a decade, delivering big-beat essentials over that period, from “I See You Baby” to “Song 4 Mutya,” and there seemed to be very little overlap with the neo-psychedelia purveyed by the Wesleyan Brooklynites. On the other hand, Groove Armada has been willing to adapt and change its sound to a fault, so the idea of a more psychedelic groove wouldn’t have been completely impossible to imagine.

Music Mondays – Tommy Lee joins Deadmau5 @ Ultra Music 2010

Edited by Alex Massaad from sources at MTV (who cannot write good copy to save their life)

No one was prepared for Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee to take the stage with Canadian sensation Deadmau5 to close out the night. The two began the set with a treat fans have come to love WMC for, the debut of a brand-new song (so new that it’s still untitled!). Lee departed after this initial song, and the ‘Mau5 launched into an hour and 40 minutes of hits, including his own mix of Rage Against the Machine, “Strobe” and his biggest fan favorite “Ghosts ‘N Stuff” (featuring Rob Swire). Deadmau5 had the crowd in a fit of laughter when he killed the music and emitted the death sound effect from “Super Mario Brothers.” Game over!

The application that changed making music…

By

Robert Henke

When we started working on Live, and finally showed a first Version in 2001, the big music software companies did not take us very serious. “A laptop on stage? You must be crazy!” or “This interface looks horrible!” were reactions we got often. However, we are now the most successful music software company out there, with an incredible number of customers all over the world, and our software massively changed the way electronic music is created and performed.

It became very easy to make music. And this is bad. Everyone can make a boring uninspired piece of music in a lunch break, and it will sound good and ‘professional’. It became really very, very easy to make music with our software. And this is great! Because it not only allows highly musical people with limited budget to create fantastic and complex music, it also allows those folks like me to dive deeper into the creation and exploration of music, sound and structure than ever before. I never spent less time thinking of technology and more time making music with it. Well, apart from my engagement with the company.

Nobody Beats the Drum – Grindin’ Music Video

I’ve recently become a huge fan of these guys and their audio visual jungle noise!

This entire animation was created with wooden blocks, no CGI at all. That’s pretty amazing if you ask me. If you loved the video check out the “making of” where the band gets interviewed about the creative process (subtitled).
