Music Mondays: Mindless Hope – 01 Antikythera Mechanism

This week’s Music Monday’s post comes from Philadelphia’s Mindless Hope.

Mindless Hope are a killer 5 man, progressive instrumental metal band. Their first album is called Verbatim and this is the first cut.

An Antikythera Mechanism is an ancient analog computer that is thought to have calculated astronomical motions with incredible accuracy and precision considering it is 2100 years old. Modern science would not achieve similar mechanical precision until the late 14th century when clocks began to be built with similar precision.

Just like the ancient and mysterious Antikythera, this track’s constant meter and precision is a demonstration of total mastery. The guitar distortion is a perfect blend of low and high end rumble and it sounds like the chug of 50 steam engines combined with the wail of Joe Satriani’s evil children. Check it out below

Lioness – Don’t Tell Me

Big respect to this new EP by Lioness. I love when artists are able to give something for free, and its a great way to generate a lot of buzz for a very little bit of cash.

Anyway, I’m still pretty tied up with school and all that business so I’ll leave you with the music video

Music Mondays: Cthulhu Sleeps – deadmau5

This is a high quality, clear sounding version that was recorded from a uStream DJ session I believe.

Really nice part around 3:20, then it gets even dirtier for the second half!

A City in Florida – deadmau5 – download – (originally Orlando Voorn remix)

Deadmau5 live at Coachella 2008.

Finally the bonus track has been released!

This song was included for free when you purchase a ticket to one of deadmau5′s upcoming live shows; as if having tickets to see deadmau5 wasn’t awesome enough! Now you also get A City In Florida (Orlando) which first hit my ears at the end if 2009 as a remix to Orlando Voorn’s Paco Di Bango’s World.

Too bad that Orlando guy had a hissy fit and couldn’t get this track licensed, its going to be a banger now!

Watch “A City In Florida” by deadmau5 on YouTube here:

Download “A City In Florida” by deadmau5 here.

This is basically the same track as the remix but with the vocal cut out. Thankfully. It leaves behind the only good part of the “remix,” the deadmau5 part.

YOU WANT SOMETHING TO BANG YOUR HEAD ON?! HOW ABOUT SOMETHING LIKE THIS!

Check the original remix deadmau5 made here:

Sebastien Leger does it again with Plik Plok

Sébastien Léger at Kings
Image by Romain Heuillard via Flickr

I have been a fan of Sebastien Leger for a while now. I first wrote about his remix of Manson, The People last September.

Even before that I did a quick tech blog post showing him mixing some stuff in Ableton for his live show. In fact it sounds very similar to this song Plik Plok.

I really love the minimal feel of this. It still has very prominent sonic elements; this song fills your speakers out! What’s great about this song is its very DJ friendly. If you love electronic music this is the type of track you could play as a loop in your set and add SO much in terms of effects. Reverbs, Delays and a few glitch and volume modulation effects and you’ve got a banging live remix of this track . . . in the right hands of course!

There is a huge bass line that might get in the way. If you killed the bass all that would be left would be the high pitched pattern, instant DJ TOOL! Also, the did I mention that the percussion sounds really great?

What more can I say, Seb Leger tu l’avez fait trés bien!

Check out the song on YouTube below and support this artist on Beatport, iTunes etc! (and the audiophile in me also screams; BUY THE WAV not the MP3!! but thats a whole other problem)

Nobody Beats the Drum – Grindin’ Music Video

I’ve recently become a huge fan of these guys and their audio visual jungle noise!

This entire animation was created with wooden blocks, no CGI at all. That’s pretty amazing if you ask me. If you loved the video check out the “making of” where the band gets interviewed about the creative process (subtitled).

Deadmau5 & Chris Lake – I Said (Michael Woods Remix)

Great new tune by Deadmau5 and Chris Lake. This was an essential new tune on Pete Tong’s show on January 8 and Deadmau5 himself opened his new years set at the o2 arena with it. Huge airplay!

To be released soon? Update: Not sure but I was able to find it.
